Whether you’ve been in the fight for democracy for decades, the last five tumultuous years, or you’re just getting started, know that we can win if we stay energized.
The media have failed to credit a new class of activists who will fight for their country this election, midterm or not. These are people who are ready to canvass, donate, phone, rally, text, and write. They are people like you and me, who aren’t going to wait for someone else to save our democracy.
As activists we advocate for legislation to promote climate protections, education, healthcare, police reform, reproductive justice, social justice, and tax reform throughout the year. But no matter how much we rally or lobby, it comes down to elections.
What do we need? In addition to strong majorities in the U.S. House and Senate, we must counter Republican efforts to radicalize state legislatures with the goal of destroying our civil rights.
What's in the way? Elected politicians, the dark money that is happy to manipulate them, and cynical operatives who use the culture wars to demoralize and distract us.
When do we fight? Now! There are just a few months left until the November 8th mid-term elections. It’s time to put good people in office, so that Americans can thrive.
Who’s we? Everyone who cares about this country and the people in it. People who’ve never voted before. People who’ve voted but not been otherwise active. People who’ve phoned and texted and marched and written to win in 2018 and 2020. We can do it again!
If you’ve been resting, good! We need you now. If you’re overwhelmed with the pace of the news (this is deliberate), focus on a small pledge to take action. Can you pledge one hour a week? Can you also ask your friends and to pledge an hour a week?
